This poem is one of two that I submitted to the Cleveland Museum of Art’s 2013 “Poetry in the Museum” contest. This poem is based on the painting The Artist’s Studio by Johann Georg Platzer, which is on display at the museum. The painting, in turn, was inspired in part by Aesop’s fable “The Satyr and the Peasant.” The fable is used in the painting to represent the human sense of touch.
